Vermiculite is a mineral consisting of aluminums ferrous magnesium silicate. The vermiculite brick is mostly made of expanded vermiculite, and it has the following characteristics:

Hot-face applications and back-up insulation, Good insulation value, High mechanical strength, High temperature resistance, withstand direct flame impingement, Water-tolerant, Insulate against heat and sound.

It is harmless to the environment. The vermiculite brick has not formaldehyde, benzene, toluene and xylene by the test.
